Plant Breeding Strategies For Adaptation To Climate Variability And Change: Experiences From West Africa

The content of this booklet is based on two decades of close collaboration between researchers of the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), national agricultural research organizations of several countries of the West Africa region, farmers’ and civil society organizations. The collaboration itself and main scientific achievements were described in scientific literature. The booklet summarizes some basic insights on the adaptation of crops to highly variable, unpredictable and changing climatic conditions, and how plant breeding programs could consider these when designing breeding strategies for enhanced adaptation to climate variability and change.
