Action Plan for the Dynamic Conservation of the Uru Shimbwe-Juu as a Globally Important Agricultural Heritage System (GIAHS) Area

The GIAHS initiative aims to “protect and encourage customary use of biological resources in accordance with traditional cultural practices that are compatible with conservation or sustainable use requirements” [cf. CBD: Article10(c)], specifically within agricultural systems. This action plan project aims to assist the community in preserving their natural resource base, land and crop management practices and knowledge system while adapting their system to contemporary challenges.
